Kognic Secures $24M Series A to Accelerate Machine Learning with Human Feedback

Published 3 February 2022

In 2018, we founded Kognic with a clear mission: to help autonomous systems learn faster through scalable, cost-efficient human feedback. Today, leading OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and autonomous vehicle developers rely on our platform to train and validate perception systems that are safe, reliable, and aligned with human expectations.

We're excited to announce our $24 million Series A funding round, co-led by Metaplanet (an early investor in DeepMind) and NordicNinja (the largest Japanese deep tech fund in Europe). Our existing investors Stena Sessan AB and Ernström & Co also participated, bringing our total capital raised to over $31M.

This investment strengthens our position as the price leader in autonomy data annotation. Our focus remains delivering our core customer promise: Get the most annotated autonomy data for your budget. We achieve this through our unique combination of Platform, Process, and People—providing the most productive annotation platform for multi-modal, real-world autonomy data.

We're investing heavily in R&D with our world-class team of engineers and perception experts. By the end of 2022, we're on track to reach 100 talented employees. This growth enables us to push the frontier of annotation forward, supporting emerging tasks while maintaining the productivity and cost-efficiency our customers depend on.

Human Feedback: The Foundation of Safe Autonomy

What sets Kognic apart is our focus on quantifying perception data quality. While it's widely acknowledged that machine learning systems are only as good as their training data, few organizations actually measure data quality. Many treat datasets as "the truth." At Kognic, we recognize that all data carries uncertainty—and understanding that uncertainty is essential for building safe autonomous systems.

As models become more capable through simulation and self-supervision, human feedback shifts from routine labeling to higher-value tasks: evaluating trajectories, judging intent, validating edge cases, and ensuring alignment with human expectations. Physics doesn't tell you when to yield, and simulations don't decide what counts as safe enough. That's where human feedback becomes critical—and where Kognic provides the platform to capture that judgment at scale.

We're expanding our product portfolio to address the evolving nature of annotation. This includes solutions for emerging tasks like trajectory evaluation, visual language grounding, and clip curation—all designed to accelerate your engineering velocity, reduce costs for global data coverage, and maintain the highest safety standards.

We're grateful to our customers, investors, and partners for their trust. The complex technical challenges of autonomy can only be solved through collaboration with the industry's brightest minds. We're honored to work alongside such talented teams as we build a future with safe autonomous vehicles.

We're growing! We're currently hiring for exciting roles across engineering, operations, and more. Join our mission to help machines learn faster with human feedback!

Kognic Announces €5.8M Seed Funding to Scale Autonomy Data Annotation

Kognic's platform combines AI-assisted labeling with expert human review to deliver up to 3x faster processing and significantly lower costs, without sacrificing quality. Our workflows are purpose-built for autonomy data, helping customers reduce development timelines while meeting the strictest safety and regulatory standards.

Partnering with Long-Term Investors Who Share Our Vision

We're proud to partner with Swedish investors Ernström & Co and Stena Sessan in this round. Both bring strong, long-term commitment and share our values. Building from Gothenburg, Sweden, we're at the intersection of deep engineering talent and cutting-edge global technology — an ideal base for a company focused on the future of intelligent machines.

Beyond Vehicles: The Future of Physical AI

While our focus today is autonomous vehicles, the need for scalable human feedback extends far beyond. As computer vision and embodied AI expand into robotics, logistics, healthcare, and beyond, the demand for high-quality annotated data will only grow. Our long-term vision is to be the infrastructure layer for trustworthy data across all forms of Physical AI. But we know that to earn that position, we must first be the best in the world at autonomy.

That's Why We Focus Exclusively on Autonomous Vehicles

We're laser-focused on delivering the most productive annotation platform for autonomy data — purpose-built for multi-modal sensors, proven at scale, and trusted by leading autonomy programs worldwide. With this investment, we're positioned to become the global leader in autonomy data annotation.
